They were busy building something. When they came home, there was too much work to do to sit with the memory. And in that building, over years, creating and growing something of value, they had something worth being here for.

It was the answer Troy gave me late one night as we wondered how generations before us dealt with the post-traumatic stress of war. Was it that simple? Maybe not. But that answer just sat with us.

When people ask me why we got into the car wash business, my mind always goes back to that night. It’s us building. Growing something of value. Trying to be a light. Hoping that, one day, it’ll allow us to help others follow that same path.

That might seem like a lot to put on a car wash. It’s certainly more than Troy will ever tell you. You’ll probably see him at the wash--he’ll ask you how everything is working. If you’ll listen, he’ll walk you through exactly how he likes to wash his truck. He’ll be on the roof figuring out why a pump doesn’t sound just right, he’ll be sweeping the lot until it’s finally clean enough. He’s building.
